Under-Eye Bags Removal
Treatment of the elongated upper lip
Why Under-Eye Bags Occur
Under-eye bags can arise at almost any point in your adult life. When you start seeing them, though, will depend on their cause. Likewise, the cause can influence which option will best remove them. Patients may see under-eye bags due to:
- Aging changes in skin elasticity, muscle, and fat pads
- Genetic and lifestyle factors (sleep, allergies, diet)
It is also important to distinguish between puffiness, fat prolapse, and fluid retention. These all can lead to an “under-eye bags” look, but the treatment will vary.

Never in 1 million years what I have thought that I would be diagnosed with this evil disease. (Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmoplegia) But I am so thankful to have found Dr. Patel! I was very self-conscious about being seen in public and looking “drugged“.

Ultimate experience
Dr. Patel selected the ideal treatment for my facial hyperpigmentation. As an Asian patient, I was especially concerned about finding a safe and effective option, and the Aerolase treatment successfully removed my dark spots, leaving my skin tone even and my texture noticeably improved.

Under-eye Bags FAQs
How much does under-eye bags removal cost?
Costs will mainly depend on the type and complexity of your treatment. Surgery costs are higher than nonsurgical ones. My team and I gladly work with patients to explore financing options that allow for flexible payment plans.
Why do home remedies typically not work?
Under-eye bags are generally caused by physical changes in the tissues under the eye. While lifestyle factors can help keep your skin healthy, home remedies are not potent enough to effect change on the tissue level.
Are under-eye bags the same as dark circles?
Though both under the eyes, these are two separate concerns. Under-eye bags occur with puffiness or protrusion of tissue. Dark circles (which I also treat) are specifically the appearance of shadows under the eye.
Can nonsurgical treatments permanently fix under-eye bags?
Nonsurgical options can provide exceptional results, but they have a limited longevity. Depending on your treatment type, results can last from months to several years. Additionally, nonsurgical methods best suit milder cases.
How long does recovery take after lower blepharoplasty?
Initial recovery (and downtime) typically lasts about 7–10 days. You will need to take this time off from work and focus on minimizing physical activity. After the initial period, you can gradually return to your usual routine.
Will under-eye surgery leave visible scars?
Yes, as any procedure with incisions will heal as a scar. However, the scar should not be visible. I strategically place each incision in a hidden location (often inside the lower eyelid). Thus, as it heals, it will be out of sight. Over time, scars tend to improve, especially with good aftercare.
Is under-eye bag surgery painful?
I ensure a pain-free procedure experience for each of my patients. Lower eyelid surgery is usually done with local anesthesia, which fully numbs the area. In some cases, patients may opt for general anesthesia. After surgery, some discomfort is normal. However, it is readily managed with proper medication.
How soon will I see results?
Under-eye bags removal results appear according to the treatment. With surgery, you see results once the swelling goes down (about 1 week). With fillers, results are visible the same day. For other nonsurgical options, results can appear gradually.
Are there risks with under-eye bag removal?
Any medical procedure will have some amount of risk. However, you can minimize these risks in two key ways:
- Working with an experienced, qualified specialist
- Following all pre- and post-op instructions
Some potential (and temporary) side effects that may occur include:
- Swelling
- Bruising
- Temporary dryness
How do I choose between surgical and nonsurgical options?
The right option will depend on your goals, health, and cosmetic concerns. The good news is that you do not have to decide alone. By consulting with each patient, I provide a space where you can learn about each option and explore which would best suit you.
