Well, the last time I had a picture taken I could hardly see my eyes because of the weight of heavy eyelid. Then I paid attention to how I was actually using my eyes and I really noticed when I was looking at anything especially the computer I was straining my forehead to see better. Since I have had it done I no longer have to lift the forehead and tilt my head to see. It is amazing! I love…

How do jowls affect the perception of the face?

How do Jowls make our face look older?

Jowls make the normal inverse triangle upright, thereby making the face squarer and more masculine. The sagging jawline is often noticed earlier by slim patients. Not good in a female face.

An analysis of what causes jowls How does aging affect jowls?

One only really appreciates the crisp, beautiful, firm, jawline when one loses it. Anatomical changes related to aging result in the loss of this crisp jawline, with the earliest appearance of what is termed the jowl. There is an anatomical explanation for why this occurs. The very beginning of a jowl is what one often notices in the late thirties and early forties, exacerbated in the fifties and fairly prominent in the sixties.

In men as well as women, the jawlines (and the neck) are everything. EVERYTHING!

Effects of jowls on the appearance of men and women

Jowls and necks also go together: jowls may be “hidden” by full necks. Therefore, if only a limited necklift procedure is performed, the jowls can be revealed. Therefore, it is best to address the lower face and neck together.

The very early jowls can be infuriating as they show up in photographs more often than one sees in the mirror. In ladies, they make the face look more “square”, which takes away the beautiful oval female face. Even a small jowl can age a face so. In men, early jowls are not so obvious as a squarer face looks quite good in males: hence the admonishment that men seem to age better than ladies, true or not!

Our anatomical studies of the jowls and the neck line have shown that unlike what has been heretofore accepted, there is an actual accumulation of subdermal fat in the area we call the jowl. Therefore, unlike most surgeons who try to remove or reduce this fat by liposuction, we actively remove this with meticulous dissection. This has given us what can only be described as stunning jawlines and necks:
