Aging of the hands

Aging of the hands

Analysis of Hands: how does aging affect hands?

The main changes in hands that age them are:

  1. Spots: brown and red
  2. Loss of fullness leading to more obvious vessels and tendons
  3. Loss of collagen with resulting crepiness of the skin because of loss of elasticity
  4. Not to mention changes related to diseases like nodules, arthritic fingers, etc!

Well, the last time I had a picture taken I could hardly see my eyes because of the weight of heavy eyelid. Then I paid attention to how I was actually using my eyes and I really noticed when I was looking at anything especially the computer I was straining my forehead to see better. Since I have had it done I no longer have to lift the forehead and tilt my head to see. It is amazing! I love…

Hands: Often ignored….

One can work wonders with the face, the jowls, the neck, and even the chest. It is often the hands that give the game away!. The skin of the hands undergoes constant use and abuse. The skin goes on to develop a rougher texture, fine and not-so-fine wrinkles appear, exacerbated by the loss of subcutaneous tissue. This exposes the vessels and the hands can look “bony”. Some changes of aging one cannot improve by very much: arthritic fingers, nodules, and such are almost impossible to improve or camouflage.

Nonetheless, with fairly minor procedures, one can improve the texture of the skin, the wrinkling, the broken vessels and pigment spots and even thicken up the subcutaneous tissues giving the hands a more youthful look.

With appropriate laser treatments, the skin pigment spots are reduced, the skin crepiness is reduced,
the skin is thickened and the volume improved.

Lasers were used to reduce the sun damage, thicken the collagen and a conservative amount of filler was injected between the tendons, giving a healthier (and more youthful) look!

Be aware!

Some surgeons inject the larger veins: this is a MISTAKE. In our zest for youthful hands, one mustn’t forget the physiology of the human body. These veins serve an important function and should be left alone. A better way to camouflage them is to give the hands volume with fat or fillers. This helps to reduce the prominence of the veins (and arteries) without compromising vascular flow.
