Aging of the Lips

How does aging affect lips?

Illustration comparing youthful and aging lips. Youthful lips have a shorter philtral column and a pouty Cupid's bow. Aging lips show a longer philtral column, wider width, and flattened Cupid's bow.
A series of four close-up images show lips aging from 20s to 50s. Each decade shows subtle changes in texture, fullness, and definition.

Well, the last time I had a picture taken I could hardly see my eyes because of the weight of heavy eyelid. Then I paid attention to how I was actually using my eyes and I really noticed when I was looking at anything especially the computer I was straining my forehead to see better. Since I have had it done I no longer have to lift the forehead and tilt my head to see. It is amazing! I love…

Beautiful lips have predictable shapes and proportions

The youthful fullness of lips and the upward corners are universally admired and desired. Slow loss of fullness, the downward slope to the angles of the mouth, vertical lip lines (often called “smokers’ lines even when present in non-smokers), the loss of what I have called the “earthworm” that sits on every youthful lip, resulting in loss of the definition of the lip, the loss of definition of the cupid’s bow, the loss of the vertical philtral columns and associated inter-philtral hollow, and the loss of the proportions of the upper and lower lips all conspire to make the lips look not-so-youthful!

An often overlooked effect of aging is the longer distance between the nose and the upper lip margin:
sometimes called the “long lip”.

I had a excellent eye lift done by Dr. Patel. He knows what he is doing and is very pleasant. Dr.Patel was easy to get an appointment and he works with you. The office staff was very pleasant and made you feel calm.
